Business Development Officer - Payments

About the Role

We are seeking a driven and execution-focused Business Development Officer to source, qualify, onboard, and activate merchants for Ceviant Pay. This role is responsible for building a strong pipeline, driving merchant activation, and ensuring early transaction volume. It requires consistency, structured follow-through, disciplined reporting, and strong communication.

What You'll Do

Lead Generation & Qualification

  • Source and qualify prospective merchants aligned with Ceviant Pay's Ideal Customer Profile (ICP).
  • Conduct initial discovery calls to understand merchant use cases, pain points, transaction volumes, and suitability.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date pipeline and lead activity records.

Merchant Onboarding & Activation

  • Support merchants during onboarding, documentation, KYC, and integration.
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Risk, Reconciliation, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure smooth activation.
  • Drive merchants to their first transaction and support early volume ramp-up.

Pipeline Management & Reporting

  • Maintain CRM hygiene and weekly reporting discipline.
  • Track deal stages, blockers, timelines, and next steps.
  • Consistently meet weekly outreach, qualification, and activation targets.

Market Intelligence & Feedback

  • Provide feedback on merchant objections, onboarding challenges, and recurring product gaps.
  • Share insights on competitor activity and emerging market needs to inform strategy.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years' experience in sales or business development, preferably in financial services (FX, deposits, credit products).
  • Experience with merchant onboarding, compliance, or KYC processes.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms (HubSpot, Zoho, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of payment flows (collections, payouts, settlements).
  • Proven ability to generate leads and meet sales targets.
  • Strong client relationship management and networking skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and familiarity with CRM tools.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently or in teams.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

  • Number of qualified leads generated.
  • Number of merchants activated.
  • Average time-to-activation.
  • CRM accuracy, reporting quality, and pipeline discipline.
