Group In-House Counsel

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded In-House Counsel to join the Ceviant Group. This senior-level legal role will support all entities across payments, finance, treasury, and asset management. The Counsel will provide high-quality legal guidance, mitigate risk, and ensure regulatory compliance while enabling strategic growth across the Group.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with strong in-house experience in financial services, excellent judgment, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment.

What You'll Do

  • Provide day-to-day legal advisory support to all Ceviant Group entities, including payments, finance, and asset management.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts (e.g., customer agreements, vendor contracts, service-level agreements, partnership contracts).
  • Support licensing, regulatory filings, and ongoing compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Work closely with Compliance to interpret financial regulations and ensure Group-wide adherence to CBN, SEC, NDPR, FCA (where applicable), and other relevant frameworks.
  • Advise leadership on strategic initiatives, product launches, risk exposure, and governance matters.
  • Manage legal aspects of corporate structuring, cross-entity transactions, and intercompany agreements.
  • Oversee dispute resolution processes and liaise with external counsel where necessary.
  • Maintain internal legal documentation, policies, and contract repositories.
  • Provide internal training on legal and regulatory topics to relevant teams.
  • Support Board secretarial functions, including drafting minutes, resolutions, and corporate governance documentation (as required).

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) and call to the Nigerian Bar; LL.M is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience as in-house counsel in a financial services, fintech, banking, or investment institution.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, payments law, corporate governance, data protection, and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to draft, negotiate, and manage complex agreements.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and business-partnering abilities.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple entities.
